Incredible place to visit and free admission unlike the state funded Church of England Cathedrals. Go to the top of the tower for amazing views. The crypt cafe is best value in Westminster area too
Few tourists come here; or...get it confused with Westminster Abbey. Which is a shame because its partially completed decor has a fascinating history. The chapels are ornate with garniture, resplendent in Catholic iconography. If you go, pay for a trip up the bell tower. It offers a different view of London compared to the Eye.
Today I took two visitors from Tanzania into the church. They saw a vicar leading a party round the chapels and listened in. Enjoying hearing about the history and the saints. Then after about 30 minutes some officious woman told us it was a private group and we had to leave. The church is open for all to pray and learn. What harm was being done? The two ladies from overseas were surprised at this behaviour and i was shocked at my own church. Disgraceful. I have been attending the Catholic church for nearly 60 years and was shocked at this type of behaviour and elitist attitude. A sad day for the church claiming to say welcome to all. A very sad day for our visitors. I had to explain that not every church is like this. Incidentally every church in Africa I have visited has been totally embracing and welcoming not trying to reject people.
Touristy yet homely. A beautiful and well maintained edifice gifted to our generation by history. Worth visiting. Worth attending Mass. Go online and find the Mass Times. I suggest you attend and of the sung Masses. The singing is just breath taking .
Refuge from the hustle and bustle of Victoria St and the serene interior is worth a visit. Side chapels are reminiscent of the churches in Spain with various devotions taking place throughout the year. Good shop and the chance to visit the bell tower to look out at the view for 6 per person, but you can stay up there for a considerable time.
